iPhone 2G with 3.0 update - success!
Yes, I have successfully updated my iPhone from 2.2 firmware to 3.0. It's quite a simple thing to do... All a big thank you to the awesome iPhone DevTeam! This is what I did on my Intel i7 with Windows Vista:
- Back-up your SMS, Contacts, etc. using iTunes 8.2.
- Click on your iPhone in iTunes, Shift + click on Restore and restore it with the ipsw 3.0.
- Once that is done, get RedSn0w (Ask Google) and execute the program.
- Just follow a bunch of simple steps, where you need Bootloader 3.9 and 4.6 also.
- And then, you're done!
See, told you it's quite simple. For those who are having trouble with their updates being stucked at 'Downloading jailbreak data' with the loading icon moving, I believe it is because you are still on the old firmware. To me, I solved this problem by upgrading to 3.0 using the iTunes restore first, and then perform the update.
Try it, and goodluck to you if you are attempting it :)
